Client: Doug Cook, Owner
While at a previous firm, Michael was contacted by the owners of this Calistoga Bed & Breakfast to assist with renovating the landscape while keeping the historic nature of the landscaped grounds. The Brannan Cottage Inn has been located at this site since 1860, when Sam Brannan founded the town of Calistoga (after Saratoga, NY in California). The landscape was updated to reflect the owner’s desire for an attractive, water conserving grounds. The end result is a landscape that pays homage to its historical background and provides year-round appeal to guests and visitors alike.
The front streetscape border was relandscaped with lavender, lantana, osteospermum and rockroses to provide an attractive approach and curb-appeal. The new lawn area is a bit smaller than previously, with water-wise plants creating a vibrant perennial border. The new decking and patio receive guests wanting to enjoy the wonderful spring, summer and fall evenings. The brick patio serves as the perfect location for Friday night wine hours with the owners of the Inn and a local winery. Additional seating areas were created with the addition of decomposed granite walkways and patio.
A wonderful renaissance for this historic inn.
