The City of Cotati contracted with Michael A. Cook to provide a Master Plan for the recently acquired ranch site across from City Hall. Falletti Ranch is a historic farm in the center of the City. With a joint agreement between Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District and the City of Cotati, the 4.4-acre site will be preserved to become a community park, museum, and demonstration farm. The master plan identified opportunities for the City to allow the general public access to the farm and to develop demonstration areas for school groups and the public. All improvements were to be accessible and paid homage to the aesthetic of the historic farm.
Upon approval of the master plan for Falletti Ranch, our first task designed the rural sidewalk network around the Ranch. The rural sidewalk was to fit into the existing City network of sidewalks and allow ADA access into the site, with an alternative pavement (we recommended and used NaturalPave).
It also included a picnic area with new ranch fencing, native and drought-tolerant plantings, and low-volume drip irrigation. Additional phases will include demonstration gardens, museum exhibits, and renovation of the existing structures.
