Lafayette Mercantile is a 2 and 3 story office and commercial building over structured parking, in downtown Lafayette. This project is in an urban setting, along Downtown Lafayette’s Mt. Diablo Boulevard. The landscape utilized all of the land and streetscape frontage, and includes rooftop plazas over the underground parking structure, and on upper-level patio areas. Through coordination with the architect and structural engineer we were able to include numerous large planters and pots, as well as a water feature within the breezeway. Irrigation and drainage was coordinated with the structural engineer in order to ensure that the penetrations into the ceiling slab did not conflict with the structural framing.

This project was a public-private partnership with the City of Lafayette and the developer. SZFM Architecture was a team member and completed all architectural design. The project developed a dilapidated site into a thriving multi-tenant, multi-use building and has been a boon to the City of Lafayette.

The firm was responsible for all hardscape design, planting, irrigation and lighting.
